Yes, always. Every Calen product is made from full-grain leather: the topmost, strongest layer of the hide. We don't use split leather, bonded leather, or any synthetic alternatives. Full-grain is the only leather that develops a patina with use, which is the whole point.

Vegetable tanning is a traditional, slow process that uses natural plant tannins bark, leaves, and other organic matter to preserve and condition the leather. It takes 60 days, versus 24 hours for chrome tanning. The result is firmer leather that ages dramatically better, with deeper colour and a more characterful patina over time.

Full-grain leather does show marks but they're meant to. Light surface scratches on pull-up leather often disappear when you rub them with your thumb. Deeper marks soften and blend into the patina over time. After a few months, these marks become part of the character of the piece rather than blemishes.
